Casa Botania is run by owners Kathleen and Pepe. Their story is quite romantic. It was in 2006 that their paths crossed during Belgian group tours throughout the country. She was the tour leader from Belgium, he was the Costa Rican nature guide. Kindred spirits from the very start, it wasn’t long before they fell in love, and two years later they were married. Early 2010, they decided to come and live the ‘pure life’ in the tranquil and relatively undiscovered southern highlands of Costa Rica. Pleasant sun warmed days and cool evening breezes make this a very comfortable place to live, surrounded by the nature world. The opening of their Bed & Breakfast is for them a dream come true.
Kathleen was born in Belgium and spent almost 10 years travelling after her linguistic university studies and some free lance jobs. She wanted to see the world in a useful way and joined several small non profit organisations around the world. Learning from different cultures and having experienced daily life from the East to the West, she is able to make every guest feel at home. After having worked as a manager in a yoga retreat in the southern part of Crete, she started dreaming to open her own small oasis of peace, good food and natural environment. Casa Botania was born, but it took several more years to become a reality.
Pepe is Costa Rican and proud of his country. Since 1997 he has been a passionate nature guide specializing in birds. He loves sharing his knowledge of the Tico culture and the stunning symbiotic life of tropical flora and fauna. Having lived a couple of years in Belgium with Kathleen, he speaks fluent in Dutch as well as English. Living next to the Wilson Botanical Garden is a real treat for him as a birder, where he also works as a free lance.
In 2012, they welcomed their beautiful son, Elias.
